Did the racist incident at the Duke/BYU game actually happen? Here's a fantastic rundown of the evidence so far.

Last week saw nationwide controversy after an alleged racist incident took place at a volleyball match between Brigham Young University and Duke:

Over the weekend, the spotlight was on NCAA women's volleyball, for the worst possible reasons. Duke University sophomore Rachel Richardson was playing at a tournament in the Brigham Young University field house when things turned ugly. As Richardson said in a statement on Sunday, she and the other Black Duke players were "targeted and racially heckled throughout the entirety of the match."

Most major news outlets around the country reported on the allegations as if they were fact. It was and still is a very big story. But is it true?

Here's a great rundown of the (admittedly scant) evidence in favor of those claims, presented by the writer André Hutchens:

Hutchens argues that Richardson likely "thought" she heard some slurs coming from the stands, after which the whole thing spiraled out of control.

He offers some further updates:

More evidence might emerge to substantiate the allegations of racism. But at this point...I'll be very surprised if they do.
