Wait, so you're telling me the Department of Justice could have been legit doling out justice this entire time?
All it was missing was good leadership?
Yes, not only has our new AG, Pam Bondi, frozen all federal funding to sanctuary cities...
She's now gone a step further and filed federal suit against two of the biggest offenders, Chicago and the entire state of Illinois.
On Thursday, the U.S. government filed a lawsuit against the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago and Cook County, saying their sanctuary city laws obstruct President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement policies.
The Department of Justice (DOJ), referencing a national emergency declared by Trump on Inauguration Day, is seeking to halt the implementation of several state and local laws that it claims "interfere with and discriminate against" the federal government's enforcement of immigration laws.
The complaint was filed in Chicago federal court.
This comes just weeks before the House Oversight Committee is going to grill Chicago's mayor Brandon Johnson for his handling of the city, particularly the sanctuary policies which require law enforcement to refuse to cooperate with ICE and other federal immigration officers.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Illinois, accuses those jurisdictions of 'making it more difficult for, and deliberately impeding, federal immigration officers' ability to carry out their responsibilities.'
