It truly is the end of an era as beloved TV gameshow host Pat Sajak announced that at the end of next season, which would make his 41st, he is going to be retiring as host of America's favorite game show.
Here's Sajak's announcement which came last night on Twitter:
From Variety:
"As the host of ‘Wheel of Fortune,' Pat has entertained millions of viewers across America for 40 amazing years. We are incredibly grateful and proud to have had Pat as our host for all these years and we look forward to celebrating his outstanding career throughout the upcoming season," Suzanne Prete, executive vice president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, shared in a statement. "Pat has agreed to continue as a consultant on the show for three years following his last year hosting, so we're thrilled to have him remaining close to the ‘Wheel of Fortune' family!"
There's not another one like him.
Nowadays on television, there are no more great gameshow hosts, people known solely for hosting nightly TV gameshows.
With the retirement of Bob Barker several years ago and the recent death of Alex Trebek, the era of the gameshow is officially ending.
We'll miss seeing Pat on the show. Hopefully, Sony will be able to find a suitable replacement.
And maybe, hopefully, this will give Pat Sajak more time to Tweet. He doesn't tweet often, but when he does it's usually gold:
Well done, Pat. You'll be missed.
