Evangelical celebrity giddy about evangelical representation at political convention celebrating abortion, Marxism, and atheism

There's been a growing myth among evangelicals in recent years – a myth that aligns Christ with the Left side of the American political aisle. Pointing to Christ's compassion, adherents to this myth claim that it is morally wrong to agree with conservative principles, which they believe lead to inequality, racism, and other evils.

Such individuals are often woefully misinformed on the philosophical premises and worldview of the Left, marrying their desire to love their neighbor with the idea that socialism, "social justice," and globalism are simply about sharing and being kind to one another. Some more Woke™ Evangelicals might even claim that Jesus would never be a dirty capitalist – you know, with their firm adherence to the inherent dignity and rights of individuals. After all, nowhere in the Bible can you find support for individual free will, property rights, hard work, investment, and the like. 😏

Perhaps the best poster boy for the marriage between Christianity and Wokeism is Dr. Ed Stetzer. For those unfamiliar with the name, Ed is not simply a Christian celebrity or a local church pastor. Ed currently serves as the Billy Graham Distinguished Chair of Church, Mission, and Evangelism at Wheaton College and as the Executive Director of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College.

Ed is also:

  • The North American Regional Director for Lausanne International (a global missions organization that convenes conferences with top level Christian leaders worldwide)
  • A teaching pastor at Moody Church and Highpoint Church in Chicago
  • The Director of Research and Missiologist-In-Residence for the North American Mission Board
  • An editor for Christianity Today
  • A columnist for Outreach magazine
  • Visiting Professor of Research and Missiology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
  • Executive editor of The Gospel Project

In case that isn't enough, Ed previously served as the executive director of LifeWay's research division. If you've ever bought a Bible or a Christian book, it's guaranteed that you've bought one published or sold by Lifeway.

In short, this man has the ear of Evangelical Christians in America. If you didn't know anything else about him except his resume, you probably would think that's a good idea.

That is, until you see how Ed has tried to attach biblical truth to cultural dogma.

Here's what Ed tweeted out the other day:

Remember John Kasich? He ran in the 2016 GOP primary, and was lauded as the most moderate and unifying of the candidates. Well, last month, it was announced that Kasich would me making an appearance at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. He, along with an increasing number of Christians, are displaying a significant level of disillusionment as they hitch themselves to a disturbingly anti-Christian bandwagon in the name of Christian compassion. Spurred on by the knowledge that Orange Man is Bad, people like Ed are accepting the premises that the Bible can be married to modern Critical Theory, Marxism, Progressive Morality, Ethnic Gnosticism, Standpoint Epistemology, and other blatantly heretical frameworks that are not just dabbling in idolatry, but are an all-out offense to God Almighty.

Of course, the argument isn't framed around these undergirding philosophies. Instead, it's framed around social movements grown from these worldviews. You might hear that it's anti-Christian to refuse everyone the right to universal healthcare. You might hear that it's anti-Christian to believe in capitalism, and that socialist principles better reflect God's heart for the poor and needy. Jesus, after all, would be a Commie if he were running for President of the USA! You might hear that it's anti-Christian to refuse to support BLM, White Fragility, or racial reparations. Most of all, you might hear that it's anti-Christian to vote for Trump, because he is pretty much Hitler.

The largest, most glaring irony in Ed's tweet (in line with his many other Woke screeds on Twitter), is his celebration of evangelical representation at a political convention defined by secularism (with repeated and strong efforts to remove God from oaths and party language), abortion on demand and paid for by the taxpayer (Planned Parenthood endorsed Biden after all, calling it a matter of "life or death" in the most ironic statement ever), the erasure of history and reason, the endorsement of class warfare and violence, the support of any and all sexual deviancy, and the destruction of individual rights, enumerated powers of government, checks and balances, property, and most recently, mathematics.

Fortunately, I'm not the only one to notice the disturbing irony.

Unfortunately, many others are completely in agreement with Ed.

As for Kasich, his pitch was aired online at the virtual convention, foreboding that another Trump win would have "terrible consequences for America's soul." How exactly Trump's track record of increasing individual liberty, protecting religious conviction, exposing government corruption, cutting abortion programs, and spurring economic growth would lead to these terrible consequences was left a mystery. We will never know. Perhaps Michelle Obama gave us a glimpse of the consequences during her DNC speech, where she lamented about "kids in cages" in a speech that CNN called "a moral case against Donald Trump."

(Of course, there was direct irony in her taking the moral high ground in her falsehood-laden speech)

But this idea of "a moral case" is the point. By twisting the story and getting theologians such as Ed Stetzer on the side of the Narrative™, it gets easier and easier to sell the agenda to the American people. As someone who has drunken the Kool-Aid of Leftist syncretism, Ed celebrates the emergence of another evangelical "convert" to the DNC platform.

What guys like Ed and Kasich don't see now, but will eventually, is that the Woke™ platform is a never-satiated monster built upon greed, envy, and lust for power. In the name of Christian compassion, these individuals have thrown truth, inherent rights, and objective reality out the window, ignoring the fallen nature of man and the historical lessons of tyranny. The Woke™ beast is always hungry and the first it devours are its own. You may bow down at its altar, but it is always shifting the goalposts. Those at the helm of power are always requiring more acts of penance and worship. It is an all-consuming thing.

Resident Woke-In-Chief AOC was happy to demonstrate this fact yesterday, slamming Kasich and undercutting his support for not being "progressive" enough.

Enjoy the celebration of this "significant moment" while you can, Ed. History has shown what kind of devastation is wrought by the "progressive" philosophies you increasingly follow, and unless you deny Christ himself, those "progressive" authorities will never be satisfied with you.

As C.S. Lewis once wisely wrote, "Progress means getting nearer to the place you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turn, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. If you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man."
