Even language-teaching software is jumping on the #woke wagon

Seems a little strange for a language-teaching software like Babbel to start warning against "problematic" languages, but here you go:

In this video posted to their USA Instagram account, the company highlights what they believe are the top 6 languages with the highest levels of gender bias:

Danish, German, Norwegian, Dutch, Romanian and English.

What is the reason for calling them biased? According to Babbel, researchers found that in the offending languages, "'man' often appears near 'career' and 'work' while 'woman' is often linked to 'family'".

They determined that these gender biases may be part of the reason there aren't as many women in STEM jobs in some of those countries.

So, in other words, countries that have women who focus on family over career might have language that reflects that. But somehow that's problematic. Got it.I'm sure it's all peaches and cream in Yemen, Syria and Congo since they didn't make this list... Oh, wait... they only looked at 25 languages?

There are 6,500 languages in the world, and you're only going to look at 25 of them... and then talk about how 6 of those are the MOST gender biased? Really?

And let's be honest: 4 of those languages are basically the same thing. I mean, Danish, German, Norwegian and Dutch? You're not fooling anyone, those are all just the same thing. We can just lump those all together and call it Dangernotch.

I wonder if Babbel teaches Dangernotch.
