For some odd reason, musical pop star Doja Cat announced at the Coachella music festival that Taco Bell was bringing back the Mexican Pizza.
I guess she was one of the people who really loved the fan-favorite food, which is coming back to a drive-thru near you.
On May 19, the strangest, most unique, yet insanely popular fast food creation is coming back after it was discontinued in November of 2020.
Upon the cancelation of the Mexican Pizza fans of the Bell were outraged and took to social media to demand the chain bring back their favorite. And now, a year and a half later, it's back.
Don't let anyone tell you online bullying doesn't work.
From Business Insider:
A Change.org petition to "Save the Mexican Pizza" received hundreds of thousands of signatures. Doja Cat repeatedly tweeted at the chain, pleading for Taco Bell to bring it back.
Dolly Parton even told Insider in January that the Mexican Pizza was one of her favorite items from Taco Bell. When asked if she thinks the chain should bring it back, Parton's answer was immediate โ and enthusiastic.
"I think they should!" she said.
Taco Bell tapped Doja Cat to sing a jingle about her love for the Mexican Pizza on TikTok in March, which ramped up rumors of its potential return. When it was time to announce the official news, Doja Cat was there to help Taco Bell once again and revealed the Mexican Pizza was coming back during her performance at Coachella on Sunday.
The fact that Doja Cat announced this comeback instead of Dolly Parton is the definition of a tragedy.
But, in the end, it doesn't matter who announced it, the dish is back.
"Our menu is full of fan-favorites, but the Mexican Pizza is at the top of that list," Taco Bell CEO Mark King told Insider. "Mexican Pizza has a long history with the brand, and I'm glad we could give fans what they crave and bring our classic Mexican Pizza back home where it belongs."
You gotta hand it to Taco Bell, they sure know how to market themselves!
