Both Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that the FBI is looking into a larger network of people who may have known, encouraged, or helped plan the attack.
"We'll also be dropping a lot of paper, a lot of subpoenas out there to take a look to see if there was any extended network," said Bongino.
Social media sleuths have claimed at least 6 accounts affiliated with the suspect seem to have had foreknowledge of the attack. There are also questions as to how the suspect procured the murder weapon.
