Disney is an absolute powerhouse in the state of Florida—its resorts bring in about 70 bajillion dollars an hour there, and it employs about 150% of the state—so it's kind of unsurprising that, for years, it's held onto a unique "governing jurisdiction and special taxing district" within the state.
Yet that 55-year-old privilege may be on the verge of ending—all because Disney got all obsessive over the topic of five-year-olds and sex:
DeSantis has been at loggerheads with his state's largest employer over the "Parental Rights in Education" bill, which prohibits teachers from discussing LGBTQ topics like sexual orientation or gender identity with students unless they're in the fourth grade or higher...
"Disney has alienated a lot of people now," DeSantis told reporters in West Palm Beach on Thursday.
"And so the political influence they're used to wielding, I think has dissipated. And so the question is, why would you want to have special privileges in the law at all?"
The governor added: "And I don't think that we should."
Live look at Disney's boardroom right now:
Yeah I mean, look, maybe this is surprising to the folks at The Most Magical Company On Earth™ or whatever, but going all-in on transgenderism lessons for kindergartners is a losing bet.
It's gonna backfire.
Most people are naturally and understandably repulsed by such a proposition—including, thankfully, the governor of the state of Florida.
Of course, if they wanted to solve this problem, leaders at Disney could just go ahead and come out and say, "Hey, you know what, we flubbed, we messed up... turns out we don't wanna see very young children being taught about homosexuality and how to cut their genitals off and all of that stuff. We were wrong, we back down, that's it."
What are the chances THAT happens?
I'm thinking that's probably unlikely to happen. Enjoy that new tax rate, Disney!
