Man, some of my greatest childhood memories were had chewing Fruit Stripe gum. The memories still only last about ten seconds, but they're great memories nonetheless.
Sadly, Fruit Stripe gum is no more.
Everybody remembers Fruit Stripe gum. It was like a childhood tradition: Pop it in your mouth, wait ten seconds, find a trash can, pop another one in your mouth, wait ten seconds, and continue this until it's time to head back to the 7-Eleven with gramps.
Well, the manufacturer, Ferrara Foods, one of many to produce the gum over the years, says they're sunsetting the stuff, which means you'll still be able to find it on shelves until it runs out.
"We have made the difficult decision to sunset Fruit Stripe Gum, but consumers may still be able to find the product at select retailers nationwide," a spokesperson said.
"The decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly, and we considered many factors before coming to this decision, including consumer preferences, and purchasing patterns," the statement continued.
Here are some old commercials to bring you back to flavor town:
It's like a part of America just died.
Let's hope the hype this product creates as it rides off into the sunset convinces someone to bring this product back. By that, I mean get out there and buy as much Fruit Stripe gum as you can.
I'm telling you, it'll be the best ten seconds of your life!
