Very seldom is there anything edifying on television. When there is, it is worth noting and spreading far and wide. What happened Sunday night on the finale of ABC's long-running American Idol program fits into that category. Though it's not known how many millions tuned in to the finale, I can confirm that those who did were taken to church.
Yes, this was broadcast on Disney-owned ABC:
Though that stands on its own, a couple things I thought while watching this.
First, here's to hoping those tears of pop star Katy Perry were genuine and reflect the work of the Holy Spirit. Perry was raised a Christian and even began her career singing faith-oriented music.
She has since rebelled against her upbringing and the truth she was once taught. Let's hope that the seed that remains was watered thoroughly in that moment.
Second, the staging, the lighting, the sound, the screen, the singers, and the music was top-notch. It moves me and yet it also makes me think how capable God has made us humans to praise Him in the manner He deserves.
If humanity put its collective energies, passions, skills, talents, and abilities - all on loan from our Creator - towards praising Him and competing with each other to see who could offer Him the most glory, what an amazing world we would inhabit.
I already longed for heaven, but this moment and those thoughts make it insatiable.
