Judge rules Google has been running an illegal monopoly on Internet searches for years

Google was just handed a massive loss in federal court as Judge Amit Mehta Mehta found the tech giant violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act with its stranglehold on the online search and ad placement industry.

Section 2 of the Sherman Act makes it unlawful for any person to 'monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nation.'

Whoops!

The company has spent tens of billions of dollars blocking out its search competitors like Bing and DuckDuckGo with exclusive contracts over the years.

That monopoly over search has given Google the power to charge high rates for ad placements, as well as control information narratives available to internet users.

It's hard to know what will come from the guilty verdict; all that was established was the company's liability. The sentencing has yet to be scheduled.

If Google goes the way of other American monopolies like Standard Oil, the courts may force them to break up their company.

Over its lifetime, Google has bought 256 companies.

What if they all spun out on their own?

Imagine an independent YouTube. An independent Android. Chrome. Adsense.

Like Microsoft before it, the future could look very different without an oligarchical management team at the helm of one of the largest tech companies in the world, pushing for global tyranny.
