Two Georgia runoff Senate races, between Democrat candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock and Republican candidates Sen. David Perdue and Sen. Kelly Loeffler respectively, hold the key to the balance of power in the Senate. If democrats can flip these two seats, they will gain control of the Upper Chamber.
Add that to their current control of the House of Representatives, and their probable control of the White House, and they don't just get control, they get <<<<<CONTROL>>>>>!!
Some (apparently many) CA Democrats are so committed to seeing their candidates win and flip the Senate that they are willing to move GA to help in the effort.
Former Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang thinks it's a great idea! He's even willing to pave the way:
"Great news #yanggang - Evelyn and I are moving to Georgia to help @ossoff and @ReverendWarnock win! This is our only chance to clear Mitch out of the way and help Joe and Kamala get things done in the next 4 years. More details to come but let's go!!!"
But apparently many people don't just want to move there to help with the campaign, but to take up temporary domicile and actually vote in the elections.
Whoah. Hold your horses there, cowboy!
So many people have expressed the intent, that GA officials this week had to counter the trend with stern warnings.
"In order to be able to register to vote in Georgia, you have to be a Georgia resident. That means you have to believe you are staying in Georgia. Those who try to vote in Georgia while merely visiting the state may face felony charges punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine." - GA Voting System Manager, Gabriel Sterling
Not sure how many Californians can afford 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, so they may have to be content to just help with the campaign. But ya gotta applaud their hutzpah.
