A North Carolina city council voted to strip their mayor of his ability to issue proclamations because of a pro-life statement

The City Council of Monroe, North Carolina, voted to censure and remove the ability of their mayor, Robert Burns, to issue proclamations without the council's approval.

Was it because of Burns's proclamation announcing National Apprenticeship Week?

His proclamation heralding Martin Luther King Jr. Day?

Maybe it was his proclamation declaring Juneteenth a city holiday; some people find that one controversial.

Nope, those were all fine.

What got the council all hot and bothered was his proclamation recognizing June 24. That's Life Day for those of you who don't know.

No, not the Star Wars Life Day from that horrible Christmas special.

I'm talking about the Life Day celebrating the day that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022.

And it's a day certainly worth celebrating.

Let's take a look at Mayor Burns's proclamation:

Because of his proclamation of a city-wide celebration of the overturning of bad case-law that resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of innocent American children, the Monroe City Council voted 5-2 to strip him of his ability to issue proclamations without council approval.

Burns ran and won on a back-to-Christian-morals ticket, so a bunch of the city showed up to support the mayor.

Here's a video of their grievances against the council. One of the things you'll note is that a lot of the council who voted to censure Burns ran on the same back-to-Christian-morals ticket, so their vote here did not go over well.

What was Mayor Burns's response to it all?

We need 10,000 more mayors just like Mayor Burns!
