Over 70 people were shot in Chicago this weekend. Here's a breakdown of the July 4th weekend violence.

The City of Chiraq continued its increasing homicidal spree this weekend with at least 72 gunshot victims, 10 of whom have died as of Tuesday morning.

Twelve of the wounded were shot in three attacks on the West and South sides: Four people in West Garfield Park Friday evening, five men in Parkway Gardens on the South Side early Monday, and three people in Woodlawn early Tuesday.

At least 16 other people were shot, two fatally, in a violent eight-hour span late Saturday into early Sunday in the city, according to Chicago police.

And a 5-year-old boy was hit in the shoulder Sunday night, apparently by a bullet that had been shot into the air in Humboldt Park. And a 10-year-old boy was wounded when bulets [sic] were fired at the side of his Englewood home and struck him in his bedroom Sunday night.

This does not include the mass shooting that happened north of Chicago in Highland Park during a July 4th parade.

In recent years, violence has continued to escalate in the city, which has been run by leftist leaders for decades and has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation.

The holiday toll is lower than last year, when 19 people were killed and more than 100 people were shot over the Fourth of July weekend. In 2020, 79 people were shot, 15 of them fatally; in 2019, 68 people were shot, 5 of them fatally.

Reporter Julio Rosas was on the scene this year, however, to give us a visual of the crime scenes involved in this year's violence.

While we've all become accustomed to the long lists of victims, these photos bring a bit of the raw chaos unfolding in Chicago right now.

Unless something changes quickly (and more gun control isn't going to stop this), Chicago is in for a lot more death in the near future.
