Breaking news from the squad! We've never heard this before and it's so earth-shattering.
Iowa ... is white!
Ayanna Pressley: [Republicans say we should run the government more] like Iowa. Governor Reynolds, let's learn more about the state. Do you know what percentage of Iowans are white and what percentage are black?
Reynolds: I don't know the exact percentages no, but by far a larger percentage of white population.
Pressley: That's correct, Iowa is 90% white and inly 4.5% black. So that is drastically different from the white population. So when Republicans suggest Iowa should be a national model, they're advocating for a government that doesn't reflect our country.
Umm ... I'm sorry. But isn't this the most racist thing ever?
There are a couple of ways to take this. None of them good.
First, Pressley could be accusing Iowa's model of government of being "racist" because of white voters and that's why only 4.5% of Iowans are black. The Mean Girls approach.
That doesn't make any sense, but that's one possibility.
The second possibility, the FAR MORE racist possibility, is that Pressley is saying that a model of government that works for a more homogenous white population like Iowa does not work when more black people are introduced.
Guys, we'd be canceled forever if we even hinted at this as a political statement.
I cannot believe she's making Iowa's success a race thing.
