David Killian is thankful to be alive after experiencing a heart attack in his backyard in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, last month. Thankful for this young man, Cameron Lowe, who may have saved his life.
After previously having their HVAC appointment rescheduled, Cameron, the 21-year-old technician, called to see if he could come by the Killian's home earlier than scheduled. This would fit Killian's schedule, so Cameron headed over.
David was home, mowing his backyard, when Lowe came by to perform the routine service appointment. While Lowe was working on the AC unit, he saw that David sat down on a nearby swing to take a break from his yard work, but after a few minutes, the homeowner became unresponsive. Killian was having a heart attack.
The technician immediately called 911 and the dispatcher walked through how to perform CPR, which the 21-year-old says he had never done before.
Lowe continued to perform CPR for about 7 minutes before emergency responders arrived, and thankfully his efforts were rewarded when David's heart restarted.
David spent four days in the ICU and found out an allergic reaction had inflamed his heart almost a week before the attack.
And now he's doing much better.
David's wife, Marilyn Killian, told The Chattanoogan,
We are so grateful for all those, especially Cameron and the 911 operator who jumped into action to help save David's life.
The lessons here are to know how to perform CPR and the importance of that and also to not wait on help to get there. Because of Cameron's heroic action to help David, he is still with us today.
The Killians say that, as Christians, they believe Cameron was ordained to be there at just the right time to save David's life, with David telling ABC 9 News,
I think God stopped my heart to open up Cameron's heart, because this past Sunday, Cameron went to church with us.
In the weeks since David's heart attack, the Killians have been able to meet with Cameron on several occasions to share their appreciation for him.
