An ancient Chinese curse reportedly goes: "May you live in interesting times."
Closely related to it is the even more devastating oath: "May you live in the stupidest times imaginable."
A group of Congressional Democrats is proposing a new form of stimulus payments that would help Americans struggling with soaring gas prices.
Reps. Mike Thompson, D-California, John Larson, D-Connecticut, and Lauren Underwood, D-Illinois, have introduced the Gas Rebate Act of 2022. The bill proposed sending Americans an "energy rebate" or $100 per month with an additional $100 per dependent for the rest of 2022 in any month where the national average gas price exceeds $4 a gallon.
At about this point, already suffering under the crushing weight of inflation and high gas prices (and witnessing a bunch of politicians getting ready to do the exact same thing that helped us get to this in the first place), you just feel like begging them:
Heck, if they're going to do $100 a month, why not do $500? Then we could at least get some extra snack-size Pringles tubes and Nutrageous bars at the gas station while we're at it.
Heck, before this is over it'll probably be cheaper to just fuel your car with the Pringles! Thanks, Congress!
