I hope you like this whole supply chain crisis thing because California's new trucking regulations are going to make it astronomically worse

In the wake of protracted supply chain crises and product shortages, many of us have at least come to appreciate the absolutely indispensable role that truckers have in sustaining nearly every part of our modern economy.

California, meanwhile, looks at the truckers and says, "How can we get even more of them off the road?"

California issued sweeping environmental regulations to reduce fossil fuel emissions throughout the state that will worsen the national supply chain crisis and cripple the trucking industry, industry leaders told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) issued a set of revised regulations called the Air Resources Board Truck and Bus Regulation, which required trucking companies in the state to upgrade their trucks with 2010 or newer engines by Jan. 1, 2023. The provision will add additional pressure to the supply chain crisis and cause many small trucking businesses to close or significantly reduce their workforce, industry leaders told the DCNF.

How bad will it get? Well, according to one expert:

The rule will take roughly 80,000 commercial trucks, or roughly 17% of the trucking fleet, off the road, adding significant pressure to the supply chain crisis[.]

That's right: Maybe upwards of 1/5 of all trucks off the road in one fell swoop.

We like to joke around here that Democrats are teeing themselves up for an almost unfathomable drubbing in November. And they almost certainly are.

But it must be stressed that the victories the GOP will doubtlessly see in the midterms cannot be merely political. They have to translate to real action. Democrats cannot be allowed to regulate us out of a supply chain crisis and toward the brink of civilizational collapse. It simply must not be permitted to happen.

Republicans, when you get into office, fix these problems—ASAP. Our country literally and urgently depends on it.
