Idaho man arrested for running around a campground holding a pelican while intoxicated.

A drunken group at the Warm Slough campground in Rexburg, Idaho, necessitated an intervention by the Madison County Sheriff's Department after they

"caught a pelican and were carrying it around the campground."

For those that don't know, pelicans are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which is a conservation treaty the United States has with Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Russia to sustain populations of migratory birds.

The treaty means you Peli-can't catch migratory birds during a bender and parade them around campgrounds. I'm about 63% sure that's specifically mentioned in the treaty. Here's a link for the fact checkers.

I have to tell you all; I am shocked that these intoxicated men in Idaho didn't know about this century-old treaty. This is what's wrong with our country; we're just not teaching history like we should be.

Anyway, I digress.

When the deputies showed up to investigate, two of the drunken men began to yell at them and flip them the bird—the finger not the pelican.

At some point, the pelican was released, and then one of the men reportedly reached for one of the deputies' vests and was taken down and handcuffed.

The man was arrested and booked in the Madison County jail, where it was unclear if he was facing charges simply for resisting arrest, or for manhandling the pelican; either way his bill is sure to be enormous.
