India to help deport all its citizens that are living in the U.S. illegally

Guys, is it really happening? It feels like we're back.

India and the United States are working on an agreement for the country to accept 18,000 illegal aliens back in a massive deportation plan that I like to call "baby step one."

India's government is prepared to work with Donald Trump's administration to identify and take back all its citizens residing illegally in the US, an early signal from New Delhi that it's willing to comply with the incoming American president and avoid a trade war.

The two countries have together identified some 18,000 illegal Indian migrants in the US to be sent back home, according to people familiar with the matter. The figure could be much higher than that, though, given it's unclear how many illegal Indian migrants live in the US, the people added, asking not to be identified because the discussions are private.

India is getting ahead of potential tariffs and financial pressure from the Trump Administration by making a deal to take back some 18,000 or so illegal aliens, mostly people who are in the US after overstaying their visas.

The hope is that Trump will have mercy on them if they comply with his immigration goals.

A small price to pay, indeed.

India is also hoping to protect their lucrative H-1B deal, sending tens of thousands of legal immigrants over to the US every year who will work in America and send money back to India. Trump has, however, signaled that he would like to scale back the H-1B program.

What a start to 2025, huh?
