India's top court has decided against legalizing same-sex marriage

I just want to remind our buddies on the Left that we are supposed to respect all cultures and that all cultures are beautiful!

In a ruling meant to uphold the culture of India, that nation's top court has ruled that they will not legalize homosexual marriage.

However, the court is also ruling that there will be no legal discrimination against LGBT individuals.

Justice S. Ravindra Bhat said the right of LGBTQ couples to choose their partners was not contested, and they were entitled to celebrate their commitment to each other "in whichever way they wish within the social realm."

However, he added: "This does not extend the right to claim any legal entitlement to any legal status for the same union or relationship."

Basically, India isn't doing anything to outlaw homosexual or queer behavior, but they are not going to legally recognize or incentivize homosexuality.

Just over a decade ago, this would be seen as a major victory for the rainbow mafia. Today it's a defeat.

The government has now been tasked by the court with rooting out any and all laws that impact gay couples, but the activists are nowhere near satisfied with the decision.

Susan Dias, one of the petitioners in the case, said she, along with her partner were "disappointed" with the verdict.

"We were hopeful that it would go a little more positively," she said. "We filed the petition with the hope that we'd leave with some rights. So, definitely disappointment but I don't think we've taken any steps back."

The slippery slope has been, I don't know, made slightly less slippery, but unless the government in India actively pushes back against the LGBT community then before long they'll be baking the cakes, hosting drag queen story hours, and see women's sport destroyed.

It's a long road to the bottom. We'll see who gets there first!
