Okay, I've never seen instant karma go this hard:
Yeah man, this guy went from underground scrap metal salesman to, well, simply underground (six feet to be exact) real quick.
Autoshop owner Mike Abouharb shared that he found the man's body when he arrived at work in the morning.
"I didn't even get close to him," Abouharb told WTOC-TV. "I called the police right away."
Police ruled the death accidental, sharing that Smith's death was "the result of an attempted catalytic converter theft."
Dude, I hope it was a quick death for this guy, I really do. I know I'm supposed to be mad at him for stealing the catalytic converter and all, but I can't help but have a little mercy for the guy.
I had this same question, so I'll just let the shop owner ask:
"Is it worth it? To steal a catalytic converter to sell for $100," Abouharb told WTOC. "To lose your life? It's not."
Now, I'll take Abouharb's word for it that this particular converter was only worth $100, but did you know the things can go for up to $1,500?
For real.
Either way, it was definitely not worth this man's life, and I bet in those closing minutes of his life he had the same thought.
A little info on catalytic converters.
Scrap catalytic converters are generally worth between $100 and $1,500. The price you're able to get for them depends on their condition and the model of the car. For instance, GM catalytic converters usually sell for $80-$310…
It's constructed using precious metals like platinum, rhodium, and palladium.
So all you catalytic converter thieves out there have been warned.
If you want to do a job that involves working under cars, maybe you should do a little research on car jacks before you do so.
Then again, two-bit criminals aren't usually that smart…
