Is anyone at all surprised that Twitter's ridiculous new consent-based photo sharing policy is being used in this way? 🙄

Seriously, this may be the least shocking news you'll hear for the rest of the year—Twitter's new ban on photos shared without the subject's consent is being used in the most predictable way possible:

Neo-Nazis and far-right activists are coaching followers on how to use a new Twitter rule to persuade the social media platform to remove photos of them posted by anti-extremism researchers and journalists who specialize in identifying episodes of real-world hate.

Advocates said they worry the new policy will suppress efforts to document the activities of the far-right and will prove to be a gift to members of hateful movements eager to keep their identities concealed.

"It's going to be emboldening to the fascists," said Gwen Snyder, an anti-fascist researcher and organizer in Philadelphia.

Oh really, you think?!

What's most grimly entertaining is this: Technically speaking, the "Neo-Nazis and far-right activists" are arguably using the policy exactly as it was meant to be used. Right??

Twitter itself claims that the campaign has been "malicious," but how exactly is that the case? Twitter's own new policy broadly outlaws the sharing of "media of private individuals without the permission of the person(s) depicted." Isn't this how it's supposed to work?

Good luck figuring it all out, Twitter! We'll be interested to see what you come up with!
