I don't think anything can top last year's Cooper's Hill cheese roll winner flailing across the finish line unconscious.
Even so, I still can't look away from the gravity-fueled mayhem of England's race for the wheel of Double Gloucester cheese rolling down a 200-yard-long hill with a 1:2 gradient, reaching speeds upwards of 70 miles per hour.
The racers tend to roll along right behind the cheese with cuts, bruises, and bone breaks galore. It's a lot like watching NASCAR, but there aren't any cars and everyone crashes.
There are men's and women's divisions and multiple winners, but one winner really sticks out.
Here are all this year's highlights:
If you watched the whole video (and it's okay if you didn't, we have highlights below) you saw the interview with American college grad Abby Lampe who has now won the female division of the Cheese Roll two out of the last 3 years.
But here's the interview with the only ever American champ, who is now a two-time champ.
NO ONE ELSE WAS EVEN IN THE SHOT!
She smoked them like a nice gouda cheese!
That's what you call putting your body on the line!
And the gal is so likable.
I just tumbled down and did my best. The Lord really helped and gave me strength. I'm just really thankful for the opportunity.
I have no clue, outside of The Lord's protection, how she didn't injure herself. That was the most painful thing I've ever watched.
The only female American to ever win won twice. With a year in between.
She could be 3x champ if she wasn't a Swiftie, smh.
The pride of North Carolina, right there.
Makes me proud to be an American.
Now, for the other comical highlights.
One of my favorite parts is the catchers at the finish line.
These dudes are built like the NFL defensive line and are just as brutal in their takedowns.
DANG!!!
And there are the various techniques the participants use to chase the cheese.
There's the safe but ineffective slow roll.
The impressive but incredibly hard-to-master twinkle toes.
The diabolical flailing assassin.
And finally, the reason we keep watching, and the champ's technique of choice: the battered bunny.
What a thing of beauty!
