Remember that time when local election officials accepted millions and millions of dollars of private cash from left-wing ideologues like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg in order to bankroll election machines in tightly contested districts of important swing states?
Yeah that's not happening in Georgia anymore.
Local governments in Georgia could face felony charges if they receive donations from nonprofit organizations after the 2020 general election saw million-dollar donations to county election offices.
The bill "will effectively make it a felony for election workers or government officials to solicit or accept money to cover the cost of running elections from anyone other than the state or federal government."
Which, you know, makes sense. Since an election is explicitly a government function and it shouldn't be funded by private partisan bank accounts.
Former Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler argued that the bill "levels the playing field for election boards across our state and safeguards them from outside influence."
