While most of the folks who work for PETA seem to be verifiably insane, they're at least always good for a laugh.
Take, for instance, their latest newsworthy plan.
They want to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a vegan cake for all future winter predictions … and they used cake puns to do it.
I need some more details here, PETA.
Retire Phil to a reputable sanctuary with his family, and every year we'll provide a giant vegan 'Weather Reveal' cake (it would be the first in the world this year) to share with revelers at Gobbler's Knob. If the inside of the cake is blue, there will be six more weeks of winter. If it's pink, there will be an early spring. This would allow you to still make tourism dough while showing Phil a slice of decency.
You batter believe that for Phil, Groundhog Day is no piece of cake.
So we're going to "predict" the weather with a gender reveal cake?

If you don't like this idea, the icing on the cake is that we have another offer: We'd be happy to send you a large thermometer for Gobbler's Knob instead that reads, 'If it's still cold, it's still winter,' which would aptly represent the absurdity of the current form of this tired old spectacle.
There's a lot of competition, but I think this might be the dumbest idea PETA has ever come up with. What's a cake going to do when it sees its shadow, anyway?
However, I'll give them points for the quality puns, but they totally missed the most obvious one:
How do you make a groundhog?
With a mortar and pestle.
I think I'm gonna send that one to PETA.
