Gee, you just never would have seen this coming, right? I mean there were no warning signs that this man was severely unstable and possibly dangerous:
A Grande Prairie parent, Alice Michael Attwood, 35, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a Feb. 19 incident that left [his] two children with knife wounds and requiring immediate medical aid.
It seems this fellow allegedly attacked at least two children, reportedly his own, with a knife, so bad that "an eight-year-old child whose esophagus was severed in the attack faces several months on a feeding tube."
The man has reportedly confessed to having committed the violent, savage act, at least according to reported Facebook posts.
The Daily Herald Tribune edited its story to exclude Attwood's name and the following message after a court ordered a publication ban (a reminder that Canada doesn't have freedom of the press), but the internet is forever:
Let's repeat that:
Umm I stabbed a hole in her shoulder yes but … held it shut until EMS arrived … yes I stabbed her but I didn't slash her like that at all. I was trying to remain optimistic given my situation that doesn't mean i haven't been remorseful. It sucks and I apologize. I'll just … take my space and do my therapy.
You wouldn't have thought he was capable of it:
The alleged child-stabber appeared to be expressing remorse on several social media platforms:
Don't worry, though, he seemed pretty fine while in the emergency room after the incident:
Ahh, "But surely," you say, "this man, accused of allegedly stabbing his children in the throat and nearly killing them, is safely behind bars and unable to hurt anyone else, right?"
Well, folks, it's Canada. So think again:
Const. Corey Riggs, the RCMP public information officer, confirmed that Attwood was arrested and taken before a justice of the peace. [He was] released until [his] next court date.
A dude apparently tries to murder his kids, he's obviously unstable and a threat to anyone near him, and the judge just ... lets him walk?
Maybe he told the judge he was going to "focus on his mental health":
Same rule applies as always:
