Japanese woman defeats robber with move she learned watching anime

No joke: 23-year-old Karin Ryo received a commendation from local police after subduing a convenience store thief using a headlock she saw in anime.

Convenience store in Tsurumi Ward, slightly south of Tokyo

After a man attempted to steal alcohol and run away, she blocked his escape and held him there until police arrived.

'I've never done martial arts. I took tea ceremony lessons,' she said. 'I like anime, so I just sort of imitated what I've seen in it. At the time, I wasn't scared, it felt like my body was just moving on its own.'
