Jerry Nadler said "What any religious tradition describes as God's will is no concern of this Congress" and I have thoughts about that

The esteemed Rep. Jerry Nadler of NY got frustrated with his Republican collegue Greg Steube (FL) last week when the House was debating the eQuAliTy aCt, which would effectively destroy religious liberty by making sexual preference and personal gender identity protected classes.

Steube quoted the Bible as he made his case: you know, that document that is the bedrock of the Declaration and Constitution (hint: inalienable rights don't exist without God).

Bear with me, he adds to this quote...

"A woman must not wear men's clothing nor a man wear women's clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this," said Steube."

[Pause for Leftist shrieks.]

Before you slam this use of Deuteronomy 22:5, you'll be happy to know that Steube put it in its proper exegetical context:

"It's not clothing or personal style that offends God, but rather the use of one's appearance to act out or take on a sexual identity different from the one biologically assigned by God at birth."

The only mistake here is that we are biologically assigned our gender at conception, not birth, but the wider point is valid. God has made us male and female in His image (Genesis 1:27). The differences between the genders, marriage, sexuality, and family all have a clear design that God explicitly lays out in His Word.

The point is not whether a man can wear a dress or a woman can wear jeans. The point is whether or not men are trying to live as women or vice versa in violation of God's design.

Steube then went in for the kill:

"The gender confusion that exists in our culture today is a clear rejection of God's good design... whenever a nation's laws no longer reflect the standards of God, that nation is in rebellion against him and will inevitably bear the consequences."

Here was a live view of this truth bomb:

Somehow unaffected by this nuclear blast, the reptilian swamp creature Nadler was infuriated that God has been invoked in his chamber. Didn't Steube know that we have separation of church and state based on that 1803 letter we've taken out of context from Thomas Jefferson? Doesn't he know that the Founding Fathers were all deeply committed secularists who wanted the very notion of God as far away from the halls of power as possible?

And so, Jerry Nadler washed his hands of God.

"Mr. Steube, what any religious tradition describes as God's will is no concern of this Congress," he said.

"No concern." Let that sink in. This powerful legislative body should have "no concern" of God's will? Has a more terrifying statement ever been made in those halls?

Steube immediately shot back:

"To say that religion has no place in this Congress when our country was founded on Judeo-Christianity, I certainly disagree with that."

Here's a quote from three men who'd walk over and smack Nadler on the head were they still alive:

"It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors." - George Washington

"Before any man can be considered as a member of civil society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governor of the Universe." – James Madison

"Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever." – Thomas Jefferson
