House GOP drops support for Jim Jordan behind closed doors as Speaker battle continues
· Oct 20, 2023 ·

Just now from The Hill:

Jim Jordan has been quietly removed from the ballot by GOP leaders after he failed three times to come up with the number of votes required to become Speaker of the House.

In his latest attempt today, the number of Republicans opposed to Jordan rose from 22 to 25.

25 Republicans are so stubborn that they would rather see this circus continue in DC than see a solid conservative as Speaker of the House.

And now, thanks to GOP leadership, we're going to start the entire process over again.

The Republican conference on Friday voted to no longer back House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as Speaker...

Moments later, Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, announced his own candidacy for Speaker. He had floated, but ultimately decided against a run earlier this month.

This came after Kevin McCarthy, the ousted Speaker, gave his full support to Jordan before the third vote.

And now, we're starting the whole thing over again!

Republican lawmakers said they would hold a candidate forum on Monday and a secret ballot election for a new Speaker nominee Tuesday.

Will the Republicans ever get their act together?
