Former President Joe Biden just shuffled in to all the commotion around the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal to let us know he's the one who got it done.
I'm sorry, what was that?
Did you catch that? Biden, who was president back in October 2023 when Hamas attacked Israel, killing some 1,200 and kidnapping another 250 civilians, wants everyone to know that his administration was partially responsible for the ceasefire.
Back in January, Biden took credit for getting an initial batch of hostages released.
This deal, however, only came several days before Trump took over the White House.
Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff led the incoming Trump admin's efforts to assist in negotiations. Though their role was limited and not yet official, it raises questions: Did Hamas fold because Trump was about to come into power? The fact that Biden failed to secure a deal for a year and a half and only managed to get headway in his final days in office certainly lends evidence to the argument.
Trump himself announced the January 15th deal on Truth Social.
Biden's supporters, meanwhile, claim Biden's deal would have held, and allowed for the release of the final hostages in March 2025, had Trump not decided to go a different route.
Surprisingly, Biden (or, let's be honest, whoever it is who wrote this post for Biden) did throw President Trump a bone in the post, commending him for getting the deal "over the finish line."
