Boy, I can't think of a better way to employ 20,000 Americans than this gem of an organization right here; we're gonna be the strongest nation in the galaxy after this one.
Let's hear it for our leaders in the White House, eh.
Seriously though, they really think we need this.
"This is important because we're not only opening up pathways to bold climate action, we're not just opening up pathways to decarbonization, we're opening up pathways to good paying careers, lifetimes of being involved in the work of making our communities more sustainable, more fair, more resilient in the face of a changing climate," White House climate policy adviser Ali Zaidi said on a call with reporters Tuesday…
The American Climate Corps will "train young people in clean energy, conservation and climate resilience related skills" and "streamline pathways into civil service," the White House said in a news release.
"Making our communities more sustainable, more fair."
This has Orwellian nightmare written all over it. But I digress.
The program has drawn comparisons to FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps, created as part of the New Deal during the Great Depression, which is just peachy and tells me our economy must be in tip-top shape.
The White House previously pitched the idea of launching a new Civilian Climate Corps as part of its sweeping Build Back Better Act framework, but the proposal was cut from the comparatively smaller Inflation Reduction Act that ultimately passed Congress. The original proposal for the climate effort said the corps would have more than 300,000 members that "will conserve our public lands, bolster community resilience, and address the changing climate, all while putting good-paying union jobs within reach for more Americans."
"WHEN OUR POWERS COMBINE!"
Like most big initiatives like this these days, the president decided to use his executive powers to create the Climate Corps because he couldn't get the votes in the House. Remember how the president tried to have Congress pass this into law last year and failed?
Since apparently the Constitution doesn't matter and the rules are just made up, Joe likes to rule by "haha try to stop me."
I just can't wait to see what we get out of this Civilian Climate Corps — and how much we pay them. I'm guessing it'll be more of the same, paying people insane salaries for very little work.
Gotta love the efficiency of government!
