Judge on the Trump case once gave a speech about overriding juries, ruling with emotion, and enjoying absolute immunity

The Honorable Arthur F. Engoron of New York's Supreme Court 1st District is the sitting judge on a civil fraud case involving former President Trump's businesses in New York, and here are some things about him you should know.

The former cabby likes to include puns and Marx Brothers quotes in his judgments. Just look at him being silly on the bench (he's like my evil doppelgänger from the mirror dimension).

It's almost like he doesn't take the law seriously at all.

In fact, he once gave a speech at Queen's College to some journalism students about being a judge and all its perks.

Here are some highlights:

So, he uses "tools" to override jury decisions he doesn't like, and he rules based on his emotions.

That bit at the end about absolute immunity, that was in answer to a question from one of the journalism students.

Isn't it funny that absolute immunity would be the question that comes to mind after listening to this guy rant?

When you consider that the Trump trial is a bench trial, meaning that there is no jury, this quirky Democrat is going to get to decide the fate of Trump's businesses all by his silly self.

You don't have to be fluent in old-time comedies to know what the punchline of this joke is going to be.

It's pretty clear how he feels about Trump.

Before the trial even began, he ruled that Trump had overestimated his net worth when negotiating contracts and getting loans, making the former president susceptible to fines and lawsuits while simultaneously setting a precedent that jeopardizes most businesses in New York that have done the same thing.

His ruling also may give the attorney general bringing the case the means to revoke all of Trump's business licenses in New York.
