Okay, I know I mentioned this was like a scene from Lassie, but this is, like, way better.

Yup, this 53-year-old man was out in a remote section of Tahoe National Forest one evening with his border collie when he fell 70 feet off of a cliff, breaking his hip and ribs.

Quick let us pause to think about the consequences of this: In NorCal you got cougars, grey wolves, black bears, and, frankly, the potential of a slow, painful death.

Well, luckily, our 53-year-old survivor, after at least twelve hours of what must've been a gut-wrenching sort of crawl, was able to make his way to a location with cell service and dial 911.

Authorities were quickly on the scene. Okay, I guess I shouldn't say "quickly." Seven hours later, around 7 p.m., a search and rescue squad arrived at his camp thanks to a pinging of his last known GPS location.

When they arrived, the crew thought they heard a voice yelling, but they couldn't figure out where it was coming from. And that's when the man's border collie, Saul—who should really go by "Lassie"—greeted them with a panicked bark and a few 360s.

"The true credit goes to the subject's K9 Border Collie that ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true ‘Lassie' fashion to flag down two searchers," the team said in a Facebook post.

The team found the man under a camouflage tarp, the post said. He was taken by helicopter for treatment for traumatic injuries, the station reported.

Yup, in true Lassie fashion, Saul saved the day, and his owner is forever indebted.

As for Saul's reward:

"Great work and skill by all involved today and for the Border Collie, he was transported back to Grass Valley and given a well-deserved dinner," the post said.
