This clip is going viral right now, and for good reason:
What a MASTERCLASS in grace and truth, seasoned with salt!
The guests on this episode were Cliffe and Stuart Knechtle (father and son), pastors at Grace Community Church in New Canaan, Connecticut. The wrestler/YouTuber (what a time to be alive, eh?) had the two pastors on his show in May to talk about God.
And what a powerful message they shared!
You and I? We are messed up at the beginning of our lives. The Reformed bros call it "total depravity" - this idea that we can't be good even if we want to. Our base nature tells us to fight, conquer, take, steal, lie, and kill. Because we are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) but rebelled against God (Genesis 2:17), we know the difference between right and wrong (Genesis 3:7), but are hopeless to stop our bad thoughts and behavior, even if we try all the "self care" and therapy and rule-following in the world.
'For the desire to do what is good is with me, but there is no ability to do it. For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do.' - Romans 7:18b-19
Jesus Christ claimed that He was God, come in the flesh, to take the penalty for our messed up desires and actions. He put our sins on His own back, but because He could not and did not sin, death could not hold Him. He claimed - not me, but Jesus Himself - that if you believe in Him, you will not only change your very nature, but beat death itself.
Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?'
