Now all the bureaucrats get their back pay.

The House passed a funding deal 222-209, meaning six Dems broke ranks to join the Republicans to end the 43-day shutdown.

The 328-page bill funds the government through January 30. Food stamps will again be available for all the people who were terrified at the prospect of not eating for "free."

But then there's this fun little tidbit from the BBC:

It includes language that makes it illegal for federal prosecutors to search senators' phone records without notice, and allows for payouts of up to $500,000 for each violation.

It is retroactive to 2022, meaning that it will allow several Republican senators to sue after their communications were searched as part of a probe into Trump's role in the Capitol Hill riot in January 2021.

As you may recall, Biden's special prosecutor was given the okay to spy on GOP congressmen by a DC judge who has been assigned to a suspicious number of important cases relating to Trump.

Then there's the hemp industry, which Sen. Rand Paul was particularly focused on:

The bill also reverses the legalisation of cannabis-derived hemp, which passed in 2018 as part of a larger farming bill. Its passage allowed the creation of a multi-billion dollar industry of low dosage THC products in the US, including edibles and drinks.

So … pot shops are still legal in a bunch of states but hemp rope is banned again? Ah, government … how we didn't miss you!

The bill quickly made it to the White House, where Trump signed it.

Well, it was nice and quiet while it lasted!
