93-year-old Norm Feigenbaum came home from grocery shopping and found his dog Sunny had scaled the back fence in an attempt to go with him to the store.
She was nowhere to be found.
‘After several days, I really thought she was gone,' Feigenbaum told ABC. ‘The house was barren without her.'
Norm's friend called the Dog Days Search and Rescue, who put up posters around town looking for Sunny. After about a week, the group got a call from a woman who thought she had seen Sunny in a local nature preserve.
The rescuers hatched a plan to get the dog home. All they needed was a pair of Norm's unwashed socks.
And believe it or not, the plan worked (in less than 30 minutes).
They even took video of Sunny following the trail of socks into a trap:

The volunteers took Sunny to the vet, where she was treated for minor cuts and bruises, but soon thereafter, Sunny and Norm were reunited, and she took her spot lying at his feet.
Norm says he's never going to wash the socks that brought Sunny home.
‘I'm not going to wash [the socks],' he said. ‘I'm going to put them in a frame and hang them on the wall.'
