I don't think this was the sort of crackling Yuletide blaze Macy's had in mind:
Macy's and Urbanspace opened this "modern-day Miracle on 34th St." on December 6. And now it's in desperate need of repair heading into Christmas.
Part of Herald Square's holiday market was left in smoldering ruins Monday when a blaze ripped through several booths, leaving one firefighter seriously injured.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m., igniting a swath of the festive shopping corridor on Broadway between West 35th and West 36th Streets just after 4 a.m., the FDNY said.
The fire consumed "eighteen shops - selling everything from bratwurst to glass ornaments to T-shirts."
It was a gnarly scene:
In total, "a dozen FDNY units, including 60 fire and EMS personnel, responded to the scene." One firefighter was injured, but his injuries were not life threatening.
A GoFundMe is seeking to raise money for the vendors whose product burned up in the blaze.
