Maine Gov. Janet Mills said Thursday at a press briefing that 18 people lost their lives and 13 were injured in Wednesday night's mass shooting in Lewiston.
The suspect, an Army Reserves shooting instructor who had made threats while checked into a mental-health facility last summer, is still at large. The public is advised to consider him armed and dangerous.
Police did not provide updates on where the suspect might be, what law enforcement assets are in play, or where their search efforts are focusing. Mike Sauschuck, Maine's Public Safety Comissioner, said, "We don't know his location."
Col. William Ross of the Maine State Police confirmed the shooting began just before 7 p.m. in Lewiston at a local bowling alley. At 7:08 p.m., new 911 calls from the second location (a restaurant) were recorded.
Seven people (1 female, 6 males) were killed at the bowling alley. Eight were killed at the restaurant (7 males inside, 1 male outside). Three wounded individuals died after being transported to hospitals. Police still have not identified 10 of the victims at this time.
Jodi Cohen, the FBI's Special Agent in Charge, also made a statement on the agency's involvement in the manhunt and investigation.
