Danish man develops scalp tumor from too much breakdancing

This might surprise you, but it turns out spinning in circles while balancing on your head is bad for your health!

The breakdancing injury of all breakdancing injuries!

Known as "headspin hole" or "breakdance bulge" — caused by too much head-spinning — this condition can begin with hair loss and graduate into a bump on the top of the head. And, according to a case report published by researchers in Denmark, after almost 20 years of breakdancing, a man in his early 30s has been treated for a benign tumor on his dome that had grown more than an inch thick.

Here's an MRI of the bulge:

"We believe the condition results from repeated friction between the head and the floor, combined with the weight-bearing nature of headspins, accumulated over years of breakdancing," explained neurosurgery specialist Dr. Christian Baastrup Søndergaard. "This repetitive strain on the skull, scalp and skin likely triggers inflammation, and over time, minor bleeding may lead to thickened skin and scar tissue, forming the characteristic bulge."

The man reported discomfort and soreness from the bulge, which he covered with a hat whenever possible. Luckily, doctors were able to remove the bulge for our breakdancer.

"It's great to be able to go out in public without a cap or hat," the man said after the growth was removed. "Many people tell me they don't notice the bump anymore and that my head looks completely normal."

Pro-tip: Want to look normal? Stop spinning on your head.

No word yet on when our breakdancer will be back to head-spinning...
