Maryland settles lawsuit for estimated $2.75 million to black women who failed the written and physical fitness requirements of the state police test

What do you call it when the feds extort a state out of millions of dollars to pay off a group because they weren't qualified for a job.

Would that be anti-racism? Systemic racism?

Or would you just call this America 2024?

A group of black ladies failed written tests and physical fitness tests to join the state police in Maryland ... and then the DoJ sued the state on behalf of the parties who couldn't pass the test.

All of this because they NEED to have a "representative" police force (as opposed to one that's qualified).

The physical fitness exam, called the Functional Fitness Assessment Test, required applicants to complete 18 push-ups in one minute, 27 sit-ups in one minute, run 1.5 miles within 15 minutes and 20 seconds, and reach approximately 1.5 inches past their toes while seated. Candidates were allowed to take the test up to three times in one year.

According to the DOJ's lawsuit, 81% of males and only 51% of females passed at least once.

Yes, the test is SEXIST because more males passed the PHYSICAL FITNESS test than women.

And the Merrick Garland DoJ filed a suit against the state of Maryland for requiring basic fitness standards.

Let's check in and see what happens when out-of-shape female cops try to stop a bad guy:

Maryland is paying up to $2.75 million in backpay for these out-of-shape applicants.

But it wasn't just the physical fitness test.

The written exam, the Police Officer Selection Test, included four components: mathematics, reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing skills. To pass, candidates had to achieve an aggregate score of at least 70% on all sections combined and minimally 70% on reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing skills. There was no minimum required score for the math component. Candidates could take the test four times within a year.

The lawsuit said that roughly 91% of white and 71% of black applicants passed at least once.

The idea that the DoJ can sue because the test is "discriminatory" is laughable.

Are they saying that Maryland ought to lower the standards for intelligence to make the force more diverse? Are they saying that it is racist to measure intelligence? Is the test designed to make white people more likely to pass? If so, how?

Questions that I'm sure the feds will gladly answer, right?

The lawsuit claimed that both the FFAT and the POST, which are used by MDSP to screen trooper applicants, are 'not job related or consistent with business necessity.'

Wait ... being physically fit and being able to read, write, and do math competently aren't a necessity? Is that what the lawsuit is saying?

These people handle guns and fight bad guys for a living ... you do know that, right??

The DOJ argued that MDSP's screening 'results in a disparate impact' on female and black candidates.

'MDSP's use of the POST has disproportionately excluded African-American applicants, and its use of the FFAT has disproportionately excluded female applicants, from employment as troopers,' the lawsuit stated.

The DoJ says that the hiring practices were racist and sexist because they have bought into the anti-racist liberal woke like that disparate outcomes are always the result of discrimination.

It's secret racism and sexism to require fitness and intelligence ON THE POLICE FORCE???

And what are the options for the state of Maryland now?

Answer: You have to lower your standards to create state mandated "diversity."

They won't say it that clearly, but that's the intended affect of this lawsuit.

Kristen Clarke, the assistant attorney general in the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, released a video statement, saying, "Maryland State Police discriminated against black and female applicants by using hiring tests that unfairly and unlawfully excluded them from employment."

'Under this agreement, the police will adopt new tests, extend priority hiring opportunities to previously disqualified applicants after they complete the new and lawful selection process, and distribute $2.75 million in relief to people unfairly disqualified by the old tests,' she continued ...

So, yes, they are lowering the standard.

Okay and get this. This is my favorite part!

The underrepresentation of black and female applicants in law enforcement undermines public safety.

HOW? How does diversity on the force make the public safer?

ESPECIALLY since you're making it easier for ANYONE to join the force.

Why is a fatter, slower, and less intelligent police force BETTER for the people of Maryland?

Because Diversity is our Strength™?

Sorry, Maryland. I hope federal mandated DEI doesn't cause you to D-I-E!
