Minnesota court orders trial to determine if USA Powerlifting violated the law by banning male athletes from female events

It's incredible that this sort of thing is even allowed to come to trial, but that's Clown World for you:

A Ramsey County District Court needs to reconsider whether USA Powerlifting violated the Minnesota Human Rights Act when it barred a transgender woman [sic] from competition.

In a split ruling released Monday, the Minnesota Court of Appeals said a trial was needed to determine if the nation's leading drug-tested powerlifting organization discriminated against JayCee Cooper because she [sic] is transgender.

JayCee Cooper is a man who believes he is a woman. Last year he successfully convinced a Minnesota court that USA Powerlifting had discriminated against him when it forbid him from competing against women:

The judge in that case "ruled last year there was enough evidence to show discrimination without the case going to trial." The appeals court said it wasn't clear one way or the other and so a trial should commence.

In a sense, that's sort of a half-victory for Team Reality: Instead of just allowing the pro-transgender ruling to stand, the appeals court says it needs to be decided like any other legal dispute.

Then again, the trial is still happening, which is just profoundly dumb. We don't need a trial to decide whether a man should compete against women.

Let's hope the trial protects women and reality itself) ... but this is Minnesota we're talking about.
