Missing Oregon man found alive after 17 days stranded in the wilderness and I have a theory

Sometimes, they say, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.

And it looks (to me) like Harry Burleigh, a 69-year-old Oregon man who spent 17 days in the wilderness last month, just needed some guy time.

I could be wrong, but lemme tell you this story.

See, Burleigh was out camping. Camping, you know, a little taste of the outdoors. Well, a little taste apparently wasn't enough.

His wife reported him missing on May 7th, since he should've been back from his camping trip by then, and the very next day search crews were out looking for him. They found his car near Twin Lakes, and look at this real quick and tell me you're not thinking what I'm thinking:

They found his vehicle near a lower trailhead that leads into Twin Lakes and determined the fisherman may have tried to walk to Twin Lakes to fish before heading home.

"One last cast" never means "one last cast."

That's just a fact. You can Snopes it.

So he goes back for that last little bit of fishing. Just one last taste of the outdoors, aaaandd...

Nope.

HE GAAAWN!

Nowhere to be found.

So his wife, along with the search crews, left him food and wrote him a few signs to let him know they were looking for him. One sign read, "Harry, stay here. Look for food cache."

But still nothing.

(I'm guessing he had plenty of food, be it fish, berries, mushrooms, whatever.)

They even found his tackle box and a makeshift shelter on May 16th. They left him a lighter, told him to build a fire and they'd come find him once the smoke had risen.

Still nothing.

And you'd think the guy would want to build a fire since temperatures were in the low 20s overnight.

Yes, I just said low 20s!

Well, now an entire week later they find another shelter, and it's been a good 16 days since he's officially been reported missing. This was apparently enough time for Harry, because he immediately answered to calls from the search crew.

After hitting up a hospital for some evaluations Harry was reunited with his family.

I'm sure he played it off like he missed everybody and had a really tough time in the wilderness.

But deep down I believe Mr. Burleigh just needed some guy time.
