Missouri woman Brenda Ruth Deutsch has been collecting exotic animals for over a decade. And it sounds like she's been collecting foster kids too; she's run roughly 200 kids through her home over that time.
Charges leveled against Deutsch do not sound like life has been particularly good for those kids or animals.
An anonymous tip came in regarding one of the female children in her care, involving some abuse and neglect.
During an interview with the victim, she told police Deutsch hit her with a paddle, wooden trim, shoes and an open hand. During one alleged assault, she said Deutsch had someone hold her down while Deutsch hit her bare buttocks.
She said Deutsch would steal her clothes and give them away as a form of punishment. She also told police Deutsch had her taken to a psychiatric hospital and later had her admitted to a residential facility for nine months.
The child was found in a home in Texas, not Missouri, full of animals and dirty conditions because Deutsch had supposedly sent her there to stay with friends.
However, a witness contradicted that claim.
‘A witness who had come forward with some information regarding the systemic abuse that was going on in the home, had said that they had been asked to bring the child down to Texas and bring the monkey back in return,' Lincoln County, Missouri, Prosecutor Mike Wood said.
Deutsch traded the girl for a monkey??

Wood is currently working with officials in Texas to investigate the child trafficking Deutsch was allegedly involved in and to verify the trade for the monkey.
It will be a ‘lengthy investigation that must cover over a decade's worth of allegations of abuse.'
‘This matter is ongoing and we expect more charges to follow as information becomes available,' he wrote. ‘Numerous victims and witnesses have already contacted my office.'
It's a sick world out there, folks.
