A new father of three Eric Mayeda said that his girlfriend was staying alone at her mom's house when she began to experience preterm labor in the early morning of April 18th at only 26 weeks of pregnancy.
Mayeda told KDVR News,
'So, she walked to her neighbor's house which is one of her friends that lives like a block away. She made it two houses down from his house and her water broke. At that time, it was starting to rain, and it was cold out.'
Mayeda said the neighbor didn't realize who she was at first: 'She was wrapped in a blanket screaming at three in the morning. That's the last thing you're going to expect, is one of your friends to show up at your door screaming bloody murder.'
Once her friend realized what was happening, he called 911, and four officers quickly showed up to assist the laboring mom.
Then the friend and neighbor called the expectant dad to tell him,
Hey your kids are being born here on my porch.
By the time paramedics arrived, two of the babies had been born. One of the infants began to turn blue in the cold and an officer took the baby into the patrol car. Once in the car, the baby stopped breathing. The officer then performed infant CPR on the preemie, who was thankfully revived.
The two babies and mom were rushed to the hospital, where they arrived safely in time for the mom to deliver the third baby.
The three baby boys, Burt, Kikutaro, and Billy-Bob, are all expected to remain in the NICU for the next four months but are doing well despite their dramatic birth a full 14 weeks before their due date.
As for the new parents, they're grateful for the assistance of the first responders who were there to see their babies safely into the world.
As the proud new dad put it,
Being gifted three โ going from none to three โ I'm just over the moon about that.
