Twenty-two Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy recruits were reportedly injured Wednesday morning when hit by a vehicle while on a training run.
"There were multiple injuries, and all victims were transported to local hospitals for further treatment," the department said on Facebook. "Currently, it is unknown the severity of their injuries."
Some of the victims were rushed to area trauma centers, including some taken by helicopter. As many as five are in critical condition, according to local TV station Fox-11.
22 police officers and recruits in Whittier, right outside Los Angeles were mowed down by a car with no motive or excuse given yet.
LA County fire officials said that of the 22 recruits who were hit, 14 suffered minor injuries and four were moderately injured.
The driver of the vehicle who allegedly hit the recruits has been detained, officials said. The 22-year-old driver took a sobriety test, the results of which are unknown.
It could be a drunk driver, however, it's also entirely possible this was an act of malice.
