Multiple schools in Indiana are setting up “armed response teams” to counteract would-be shooters

Gun-control advocates like to pretend that the solution to school shootings is simply to confiscate most firearms in the country — a civil rights abomination that would, if we're being grimly honest, lead to prolonged and deadly conflict and rampant crime.

Some authorities, meanwhile, are approaching the topic with actual brains:

At least seven school corporations in Indiana are in the process of setting up secret "armed response teams" that train staff on the use of deadly force and allow teachers access to firearms locked up in biometric safes.

The Founding Fathers would be proud.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterpri[s]e, and independ[e]nce to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson

The Randolph school corporation is among several in Indiana who have recently taken up armed response training (a few other school corps in Indiana have already done so). Teachers will be trained in the use of firearms, while the guns themselves will be "stored in biometric safes hidden strategically throughout the school buildings."

Staffers who are participants in the program will not be identified. But they are "explicitly authorized to use deadly force to protect students, staff members, or others," the policy says.

Teachers have been given "instruction on tactical movement while armed and gun drills for firing in high-stress environments," and are also required to hit 90% accurate in firearm training — higher than many police standards.

As one superintendent put it:

"The reality is, if you've got somebody who's entered your facility with the intent to do harm, or even kill, as heavy as that is, we want to make sure that they're met with resistance."
