NAACP issues travel advisory for Florida because Governor DeSantis will not allow activism and historical inaccuracies in the state's approved curriculum

Usually travel advisories are issued by governmental departments like the state department to keep citizens safe abroad.

For example, right now Afghanistan is under a Level 4 travel advisory, which makes sense after the Biden administration bungled the withdrawal of American troops and doomed the nation to an American-armed, terrorist-led, dumpster-fired heck.

But now the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is getting in on the travel advisory game to keep black people safe.

You might think they would put out an advisory against traveling to China, given the nation's rampant racism against black people, including refusing to serve black people at restaurants and the use of blackface in entertainment.

But no. Their first advisory issued goes out to Florida.

Why?

Because Florida passed laws that will not allow activists to rewrite historical curriculum in their schools.

Those stances include suggesting America was founded on slavery in 1619, celebrating Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party's communism, entangling black and queer culture, and pushing the idea that criminals should not be incarcerated.

Of course the NAACP doesn't phrase their travel advisory honestly. NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson said,

"Let me be clear - failing to teach an accurate representation of the horrors and inequalities that Black Americans have faced and continue to face is a disservice to students and a dereliction of duty to all. Under the leadership of Governor Desantis, the state of Florida has become hostile to Black Americans and in direct conflict with the democratic ideals that our union was founded upon. He should know that democracy will prevail because its defenders are prepared to stand up and fight. We're not backing down, and we encourage our allies to join us in the battle for the soul of our nation."

The Chair of the NAACP Board of Directors, Leon Russell (who lives in Tampa, FL,) said,

"Once again, hate-inspired state leaders have chosen to put politics over people. Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida have engaged in a blatant war against principles of diversity and inclusion and rejected our shared identities to appeal to a dangerous, extremist minority. We will not not allow our rights and history to be held hostage for political grandstanding. The NAACP proudly fights against the malicious attacks in Florida, against Black Americans. I encourage my fellow Floridians to join in this fight to protect ourselves and our democracy."

The reality is that Florida does teach about the USA's sad history of discrimination based on race. As early as Grade 4, Florida requires students to learn about racism, the Civil War, and the Reconstruction era, and that history is revisited through high school.

What the state doesn't allow is the rewriting of that history to raise up a bunch racially-driven activists to push the agenda of the far-left in the dismantling of Western Civilization.

Given Florida's "vacation destination" status though, I don't imagine the travel warning is going to deter anyone from visiting the sunshine state.
