New York has been doing everything it can to confiscate the guns of honest, law-abiding citizens, and after their draconian lockdown policies during the pandemic, one can only imagine why they're so hot to take away the guns.
Still, Democrat-run New York is also a cesspool of crime and violence, which makes programs like gun buybacks sound like a good idea. I mean who wants criminals running around with guns right?
So far New York has bought back 3,500 guns with its gun buyback events, and officials have been running around patting each other on the back over the success. One major flaw with those numbers, however, is that New York has been accepting ghost guns as part of the buyback program with no questions asked.
This means that if you've got yourself a 3D printer, you've got yourself a guaranteed income stream (to buy more guns, presumably).
One young man who would only identify himself as "Kem" saw people tweeting about using 3D printers to make guns for the sole purpose of selling them at the gun buyback programs. He had received a 3D printer for Christmas, which tells you a little something about his age, and he proceeded to print some guns.
"I 3D-printed a bunch of lower receivers and frames for different kinds of firearms," said Kem.
He printed 110 to be exact, and then drove to Utica, New York for a buyback event.
"It ended with the guy and a lady from the budget office finally coming around with the 42 gift cards and counting them in front of me," said Kem. "$21,000 in $500 gift cards.
"I'm sure handing over $21,000 in gift cards to some punk kid after getting a bunch of plastic junk was a rousing success," laughed Kem. "Gun buybacks are a fantastic way of showing, number one, that your policies don't work, and, number 2, you're creating perverse demand. You're causing people to show up to these events, and, they don't actually reduce crime whatsoever."
He may be a punk kid, but he's a smart punk kid.
The State Attorney General's Office released the following statement:
It's shameful that this individual exploited a program that has successfully taken thousands of guns off the streets to protect our communities from gun violence. We have partnered with local police throughout the state to recover more than 3,500 guns, and one individual's greedy behavior won't tarnish our work to promote public safety. We have adjusted our policies to ensure that no one can exploit this program again for personal gain.
They say that as if Kem were the only person exploiting the program. According to the State Attorney General's office, the Utica event accepted 177 ghost guns (Kem's were non-working), 33 non-working guns, and 86 other flavors of weapons. So more than two thirds were non-functional garbage.
Sounds like a rousing success to me.
I suspect that when New York tries to go full jackboot totalitarian, they may find a lot more guns waiting for them behind their citizens' doors than their delusional Attorney General led them to believe.
