New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is apparently trying to give Joe Biden and the Democrats a boost here ahead of the 2022 midterms, but let me tell you...it's probably not gonna work:
New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday that the state is suspending taxes on gas sales for the rest of the year as prices continue at record levels.
The fuel tax suspension, effective June 1 through December 31, will provide savings of at least $0.16 per gallon across the state of New York.
"Fuel prices have surged in recent months, hurting working families and small businesses the most, and it is crucial that we provide New Yorkers relief," Hochul said in a statement.
Oh yeah, will this bring them "relief?" Sure sure. Let's take a look at where New York's record-high gas prices were as of two days ago:
Five dollars and twenty-one cents a gallon! That's very high. Now if we apply Hochul's tax cut to the gas industry, it brings us back down to just under...two weeks ago, when prices were still at a record high:
Somehow I think this isn't gonna help Democrats that much in November. Oh well!
